Lesson 33 of 64
Selling & checkout
Handle returns and refund records
Keep returned quantities, refund amounts and stock effects linked to the original sale.
Before you begin
Find the original order or POS receipt and confirm return eligibility under your business policy.
Step by step
- Identify whether the sale came from POS or the online store, then open its corresponding return workflow.
- Select the original transaction, exact product or variant and eligible quantity. Record the customer's reason.
- Inspect the returned goods and review the destination and stock treatment offered by the workflow before confirmation.
- Review the refund amount and payment method. Follow the payment provider's refund process where required and verify its outcome.
- Reopen the original sale and return records. Check customer balance, inventory movement and linked accounting effects.
Check the result
The return must not exceed the eligible quantity or be duplicated after an uncertain response. Verify records before retrying.
Common question
Does a return record prove the provider paid a refund?
Verify the provider's refund status and the recorded payment effect. Return, stock and payment states describe different parts of the workflow.
