Review journals and correct linked accounting entries

Trace entries to their source and use the supported correction workflow with a documented reason.

Before you begin

Use journal permissions and know the original document, period and reason for the proposed correction.

Step by step

  1. Open Accounting journals or entry history and filter the relevant date and reference.
  2. Open the entry and inspect debits, credits and source links. Check whether an operational screen already generated it.
  3. For an authorised manual journal, select the correct date and accounts and ensure debit and credit totals balance.
  4. For an error, use the linked correction action where offered. Read the original-entry and reversal effects and provide the reason before confirmation.
  5. Review the original and correction together and recheck the affected ledger and reports.

Check the result

The audit trail should explain the change, with balanced entries and no duplicate operational transaction.

Common question

Can I replace a posted source transaction with a manual journal?

Review source-specific corrections first. A manual journal alone may not correct stock, customer or vendor effects.
