Lesson 42 of 64
Stock, finance & operations
Manufacture products with BOMs and production batches
Connect raw materials, bills of materials, production quantities and finished-stock costs.
Before you begin
Create material and finished-product records, receive materials with valid costs and activate a production location.
Step by step
- In Manufacturing, create a BOM for the finished product and the material quantities needed for its defined output. Activate the default recipe used for production.
- Open Production and select the product, quantity, date and location. Refresh the material preview whenever these details change.
- Review required and available material quantities and estimated cost. Receive or transfer missing materials and resolve missing FIFO costs before completing production.
- Check actual consumption and output, then confirm the ready batch. Completion records material consumption, finished stock and production accounting.
- Review completed batches and cost reports. For posted mistakes, use the linked correction workflow with the owner; preserve the original batch record.
Check the result
Material consumption and finished quantity should agree with the batch. A stock-count adjustment alone does not reverse material usage or production cost.
Common question
Is the preview unit cost always the final cost?
The preview is an estimate. Review posted costs and the relevant factory-cost allocation reports to understand the final cost.
